ROUND TABLE SERVANTS

About Us
"Gardens are not made by singing 'Oh, how beautiful,' and sitting in the shade." – Rudyard Kipling
The community is the heart and soul of our gardens. We all come from all walks of life, each bringing unique skills, stories, and passions to the soil. Whether seasoned gardeners or first-time planters, we empower each other to grow.
A Message from George Benner
My name is George Benner. I founded RoundTable Servants, an organization designed to socialize high-risk youth through athletics i.e. basketball/baseball.
In the process, I discovered real physical hunger, and began program for youth on Boston Housing Authority property to feed those in need.
This physical hunger motivated me to expand nutritious food availability through an extensive urban agriculture initiative both within Boston Housing as well as in the nearby public park in cooperation with the city of Boston.
My personal lifestyle and spirituality has been rooted in the 12 step program. Recently I made a Cursillo, reconnecting with my Catholic faith and I look forward to exploring all of this on a deeper level.
The Holy Cross Retreat Center in Easton, MA, continues to be an important part of my life. This retreat center rooted in prayer and longtime community service has initiated an effort in local agriculture.
Another activity of mine is touring the cities of the U.S. with the Boston based, internationally-recognized Punk Rock band: Dropkick Murphys. I raise money for their charitable organization, addressing the curse of drug addiction. Their support is invaluable to me and my own efforts.
On these concert tours, I have visited Catholic Worker Communities both in Albuquerque, NM, and Karl Meyer's Nashville Greens, Nashville, TN.
My knowledge of the workings of Dorothy Day, Peter Maurin and the history of the Catholic Worker Movement is sketchy. My long-term dialogue partner, an elderly retired Boston priest who has knowledge of these workings, history as well as direct experience in establishing a Catholic Worker presence in Boston in 1966 fills me in.
I'd love to be partners in dialogue for clarification of thought, as Peter Maurin would say!
